Lawmaker Looks To Ban 'Eliminator' Sales

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A story WRAL aired on a product designed to block license plates from the view of red light cameras could result in action from the attorney general.

Sen. Eric Reeves, D-Wake, Johnston, saw WRAL's story Friday on "The Eliminator," a plastic strip that when placed on a license plate can prevent traffic cameras from seeing the tag.

Officials are worried that the device can be used to prevent red-light runners from being identified.

Reeves said he is drafting a letter to Attorney General Roy Cooper, asking that the product be banned.

A spokesman in the attorney general's office said it may only require an adjustment of existing laws.
