Shigellosis, an infection of the digestive tract, is spread by sharing drinking cups or eating utensils with someone who has the disease. It is usually found in children who do not wash their hands. Some people who are infected may have no symptoms at all, but may still pass the bacteria to others.
Symptoms, which include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, can appear within a matter of days after contamination.
Health officials said one of the cases was diagosed last week. Officials said all of the children in the 3-year-olds class have been tested. So far, no other cases have turned up.
Almost four months ago, 17 children at another KinderCare were diagnosed with shigellosis. The outbreak happend at KinderCare's facility on Millbrook Road. The Health Department worked with the staff on improving hygiene and other health care practices.
