Learning experiences abound at International Festival
Hundreds came together for the International Festival of Raleigh at the Convention Center on Friday to share stories, histories and traditions.
Posted — Updated“We’re living in a world altogether as our home. This festival gives us a chance to get to know each other (and) share our culture,” said Miguel Solis, a legal counselor with the Mexican Consulate.
Some parents were using the festival as an opportunity to teach their children about other cultures.
“We have to incorporate cultural diversity, and this is just the perfect place to be,” teacher Patricia Penn said.
Penn went to see her daughter perform at the festival. She said she sees more understanding between cultures, classes and races in her classroom and knows a future isn't far away where backgrounds are no longer a dividing line.
“I think the more activities families have to participate in, I think it will happen,” Penn said.
The International Festival of Raleigh runs through Sunday.
Children aged 6 and under get in free. Tickets are $6 for children 7 to 12 years old and for adults 65 and older. Tickets for other adults are $7.
