DURHAM, N.C. — Three arrests have been made in connection with the death of a Durham woman.

Durham investigators said 89-year-old Lois Joyner Cannady was murdered Wednesday night in her Durham home.

Authorities have arrested Little Jerome Freeman, 25, of 2129 Chapel Hill Road, Ricky Evelon Morris Jr., 19, of 803 N. Guthrie Ave. and 18-year-old Gregory Jamar Lee. All three are charged with first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and murder.

Authorities said Lee lived across the street from Cannady at his father's house.

Investigators said Cannady was being harassed earlier in the day by a group of suspects. Police said the suspects sprayed her with Mace and started laughing at her.

Later that night, Cannady called 911 at 11:22 p.m. to report a possible intruder in her home. When authorities arrived, they found Cannady dead with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities believe she was shot with an assault rifle.
