Handcuffed Suspect Escapes From Durham Police Officer

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Police are searching for a robbery suspect who injured and escaped from a police officer late Thursday night.

Cory Edwards, 23, was picked up by police at 4900 Apex Highway, near Highway 54, and was brought to Durham police headquarters for questioning regarding a robbery at an ATM.

Edwards, who was handcuffed, overpowered an officer in the police department parking lot as he was being escorted to the building.

Officer B.W. Parker suffered a knee injury and is being treated at Durham Regional Hospital.

Edwards is a black male with dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a yellow shirt, and his hands were handcuffed behind his back.
