All-American Week Kicks Off At Fort Bragg

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Fort Bragg will see a flurry of activity over the next several days. All-American Week kicked off Monday morning with the annual division run.

"When you're running, there's no feeling like it in the world, except, maybe, jumping out of an airplane," said Cpl. Jarvis Myers.

Myers is participating in the All-American week 4-mile division run for the second time.

This year he was near the front of the line, escorting the chief of staff. For that, he feels great pride.

"For myself, being a paratrooper and able to participate in the history and be remembered as an 82nd Airborne member and allowed to participate in the upcoming events is very special for myself, because it will reflect on my family and the honor I bring to them," Myers said.

The 82nd Airborne is celebrating its 60th anniversary. This week, young paratroopers and retirees who paved the way, will come face-to-face during a week full of activities.

"We'll have retirees coming from all over the country, representatives actually in the reviewing party from each of the Airborne regiments that were activated during World War II in order to fight against the Nazis," said maj. Richard patterson fo the 82nd Airborne spokesman.

While this is a chance for retirees and active duty troopers to meet and reminisce, it is also a time for the community to see what being a paratrooper is all about.

"The families that come out and see this, the surrounding community will get a great appreciation for what our paratroopers do every day in training to defend this country. I think they will really enjoy the week if they come out and spend some talking to the young paratroopers learning what they do," Patterson said.

There is a
