Rabid Raccoon Found In Orange County

Posted Updated

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — Orange County has its ninth confirmed case of rabies. The rabid raccoon was discovered in Cedar Grove, which is in the northern part of the county.

A dog attacked and killed the animal, but its rabies vaccination was expired. When that happens, state law requires the dog be put to sleep or quarantined for six months.

Since the owner could not afford such a lengthy stay, the dog was euthanized.
