Raleigh Neighborhood Goes High-Tech To Fight Crime

North Raleigh Association of Neighborhoods

has launched a program called C.A.P.E.R.S: Crime Awareness and Prevention E-Mail Response System.

Residents can register and report any suspicious activity or crime on the group's

Web site

Tim McBrayer developed the first-of-its-kind neighborhood watch Web site in Wake County.

"This is a way for neighbors and neighborhoods to communicate with other neighborhoods about things that affect them," he said.

McBrayer said the concept is simple; people subscribe and anyone can e-mail the site about crime in the neighborhood.

"It's just one more way of using technology you have available to you," he said.

Currently, neither the Raleigh Police Department or Wake County Sheriff's Office has a way to get the information out to residents.

McBrayer hopes the program catches on in other neighborhoods in Wake County.
