To kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month, Judge Elizabeth Keever read a proclamation from Governor Mike Easley and introduced Sharon Sullins to the community.
Sullins is the first Americacorp Vista volunteer to be assigned to Cumberland County's
Guardian ad Litem
program.
Sullins' job is to find new advocates for children in court.
"Last year in Cumberland County there were over 1,000 substantiatedcases of abuse and neglect. Many of those children went to court and had no Guardian ad Litem volunteer. So my goal is to recruit and train more volunteers so more children will be represented in court," Sullins said.
