ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A 11-year-old boy drowned Sunday after wandering away from his grandmother's home in Robeson County.
Police said LaQuann Smith took his shoes off at the side of a pond just north of Red Springs and went in. His family did not notice he was gone until a short time later.
The little boy could not swim and was pronounced dead at a Lumberton hospital.
Authorities said no charges will be filed in the incident.
