SANFORD, N.C. — One of North Carolina's five no-kill animal shelters will remain open.
The
San-Lee Humane Society
thought it was going to close earlier this month because it did not have money to stay open.
Private donations will allow the shelter to keep accepting animals until April, when the money will run out again.
The shelter lost funding from the county several months ago when it became a no-kill shelter.
Two weeks ago, volunteers from the Animal Rescue League of Boston picked up more than 30 dogs and cats to bring to waiting families up north.
Last week, the San-Lee Humane Society announced that it would close when the rest of its animals were adopted.
