The city began putting up signs Wednesday that show how high floodwaters rose after Hurricane Floyd. The signs are only on land the city bought from homeowners that were flooded out.
Not everyone likes the new signs, but organizers say people who live or work nearby need to know.
"I think people need to be aware of the areas that they are moving into or thinking about moving into," project planner Jim Bradshaw said. "They need to be aware of the environmental conditions of that area so they can make a more informed choice about the location."
Sixteen of the new signs went up Wednesday. A state grant paid the $2,000 cost of the project.
