Conservationists Discuss Ways To Save N.C. Trees

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C — As North Carolina grows, trees are being lost by the thousands. Conservationists are discussing new ways to save urban forests and individual trees at a conference in Raleigh.

Experts said clear-cutting, subdivisions and commercial development take their toll on trees and the benefits they deliver.

"When you are developing a site, what can you do to maintain some of those existing trees, which add to the value of the property in sales value, as well as the stormwater retention ... and the air quality benefits -- all of those things that trees do for us that we really take for granted," Lois Nixon of the

Triangle J

Appearance Committee said.

The two-day event hopes to keep North Carolina green by saving as many trees as possible.
