Maynor (6-0, 180, North Carolina A&T) is an eight-year veteran of the AFLand owns four Arena Bowl championship rings (Tampa Bay, 1995-96; Orlando, 1998, 2000), including an Arena Bowl XIV MVP honor after leading the Orlando Predators to a 41-38 win over the Nashville Kats in 2000. He earned his stripes as a quarterback in the AFL with the Predators and signed a free agent contract with the New Jersey Gladiators last season, where he passed for 2,644 yards and 40 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
A versatile athlete, Maynor is one of only two players (Arizona's HunkieCooper is the other) in the 15-year history of the Arena Football League to run for a touchdown, pass for a touchdown, receive a touchdown, return a kick for a score, record a quarterback sack and intercept a pass in his career. He also converted a 33-yard field goal as a member of the Tampa Bay Storm in 1995.
"He [Maynor] brings something to the table that you can't coach," Cobrashead coach Mike Neu said. "He's a great leader with championshipexperience. He has all the intangibles that you look for in a quarterbackboth on and off the field."
Maynor is one of only a handful of quarterbacks in the league that has theability to beat teams threw the air and on the ground. He had arguably one of the best seasons in league history in 2000 when he passed for 3,167 yards and 54 touchdowns and rushed 60 times for 200 yards and another six scores. Maynor led the Predators to the Arena Bowl championship that season and finished in the league's top 10 in passing and rushing.
A native of North Carolina, Maynor attended North Carolina A&T inGreensboro, N.C. He currently lives in Fayetteville, N.C., where he worksas quarterback coach for Fayetteville State University (NCAA Division II).
The addition of Maynor gives the Cobras four quarterbacks heading intotraining camp, which is set to kickoff on March 24. Last season's back-upLance Funderburk, veteran Aaron Sparrow and rookie Tim Lester complete the quarterbacks on the Cobras training camp roster.
