The Streets Of Southpoint
after a construction worker accidentally uncapped a live sprinkler head on the mall's second floor Friday morning.
The uncapped sprinkler caused water to flood the first floor of the mall.
"Unbelievable, but things like this happen on a construction site," senior marketing manager Angela Sweeney said. "We mobilized our crews right away, and started getting the water cleaned up. The water flow was over very quickly, so the cleanup is going very well. We don't expect any long-term cleanup from this."
Three stores, The Gap, Talbot's and Ross-Simons, were affected by the flood. However, there was no merchandise or carpet in the stores because the mall has not opened yet. There is no word yet as to how much damage was caused by the flooding.
The mall is still expected to open March 8.
