Students At Harnett County School Implement New Security Methods

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Students at a Harnett County alternative school are now going through intense security before they even get to class.

Two guns were found on the STAR Academy campus last week. As a result, the school implemented new security measures.

When students get off the bus, they are swiped with a metal detector. Once inside, they walk through another metal detector and then they are padded down.

Using the new procedures, teachers found a knife on another student who came to enroll.

"If it takes measures further than we implemented, that's what we're going to do, so long as we find it has further detered. It has helped," principal Major Peavy said.

School leaders said they have not had any complaints from parents or students at the school about the new procedures.
