Sampson County Authorities Need Your Help In Identifying Wreck Victim

Posted Updated

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — Sampson County authorities hope you can identify a young wreck victim who died this weekend.

The teenage girl was hit while walking across U.S. 701 near Newton Grove just before midnight on January 30.

She had no ID, so deputies are hoping you may recognize some of the personal items she had with her. She was carrying a black duffel bag with wet clothing, a silver ring, several gold necklaces and size 9 boots. She was described as a 5-foot-9 white female with dark hair.

Hospital workers said it has been emotionally draining to work so hard for someone they do not know.

"It is a terrible thing to think that there is a parent out there or parents who have a child who do not realize that she is in this hospital and is now in the morgue," hospital social worker Jackie Willard said.

Troopers said the girl was approaching a man in a parked tractor-trailer when she was hit. He left behind a false name and number and took off. They are hoping he will contact them with information.
