When summer comes, you want your child to run, kick and cheer with the best, but what is the best camp? Parents can head to the Carolina Parent Magazine's Camp Fair on Sunday armed with questions. The magazine's marketing director, Robin Hutchison, has some examples:
Whether your medicine-minded child is going to dissect the summer away or while away the hours artistically in day camps, you need to ask about discipline.
Hutchison said you need to ask about a camp's rules and decide if they click with your parenting style.
Also, be sure to ask about liability, especially for active programs.
The Summer Camp Fair will assemble about 70 different camp booths, armed with people to answer questions not usually found in brochures.
Hutchison said both the child and the parents need to have a say in which camp the child attends.
"I think parents can offer a lot of suggestions and certainly nobody knows their child better than a parent does. I do think it's important that parents don't ship kids off to a camp program that they're not enthusiastic about," she said.
The fair takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cary Academy on Harrison Avenue, one-half mile south of I-40. The fair will take place in the gymnasium and is free to the public. You can even find a camp and be home in time for the Super Bowl.
