Soldier Convicted In Airman Murder Seeks Lighter Sentence

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A former Fort Bragg soldier convicted of killing his girlfriend's husband is trying to get a lighter sentence.

Staff Sgt. John Diamond was sentenced to life in prison in the December 2000 shooting death of Air Force Captain Marty Theer.

Coy Brewer, Diamond's attorney, said he has contended all along that Theer's wife, Michelle, was actually the shooter.

Michelle Theer has never been charged.
