Members of Fleet Hospital 20 left Camp Lejeune Thursday morning. They will be providing medical care to military detainees from Afghanistan held at the U.S. base.
Most of the staff's training and experience has been in treating members of U.S. military and their families. Though this situation is different, they said they are determined to provide good care.
"Certainly, part of being in medicine is we put the patient first and we take care of the patient. Our country has asked us to go down there and do what we can. I'm fully prepared and capable of doing that," said one pharmacist leaving for Guantanomo Bay.
The medical personnel will join other Marines and Sailors already operating the POW facility at Guantanomo Bay.
