Most of those affected in the latest addition to the school system's
2002-03 Student Reassignment proposal
are high school students.
School officials released some other numbers that may cheer up parents as the plan continues to develop.
The plan started out affecting about 5,800 students. Based upon public input before Christmas, 859 students were added to the original proposal, but 1,389 students were removed.
Only about 5,200 remain reassigned. However, thousands may benefit from a grandfather policy which allows students in grades 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 to remain in their present schools.
The formal assignment plan for 2002-03 school year will be presented to the Wake County school board on Jan. 22.
