At the meeting, residents said that they were surprised to learn that nearly 700 homes, in neighborhoods like Medfield, were put on notice for annexation with no timetable.
As many as 600 other homes, in areas like Hillsdale Forest and Greenwood Acres, will be put on the town's tax rolls by 2003.
The next step is the negotiation process for water and sewer hook-ups.
"Let's make it so we can all stay in our homes, because if I had to pay $20,000 to $40,000, I would have to move. I would like to stay in my home," said Martha Dickerson, a Wake County homeowner who will be annexed.
Dickerson said that despite all of the controversy, she is looking foward to voting in Cary.
