Fort Bragg Ushers In Holiday Season With Tree Lighting

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — A holiday tradition is lighting the night sky at Fort Bragg.

Soldiers started the holiday season by lighting a holiday tree Monday evening.

The 43-foot-tall cedar ridge tree is adorned with 5,200 lights and hundreds of other ornaments.

The tree will remain decorated through January 2, representing the soldiers and their families.

A menorah on base will be lit during Chanukah.

A holiday tradition at Pope Air Force Base returned to its "roots" this weekend as a crowd came out for the base's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

For the last two years, an artificial tree with fiber optic lighting had been used.

This year, the air force base opted for a live tree with white lights as a way of reminding people of simpler times.
