Airmen will be flying over American cities, protecting U.S. airspace, in a mission of homeland security.
The skies over the United States will be safer once F-15E's, also known as Strike Eagles, take flight. There are 98 Strike Eagles stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro.
The 4th Fighter Wing, which was activated Monday, will take part in the homeland defense program aimed at keeping Americans safe at home.
"Operation Noble Eagle is homeland defense, which is military personnel flying combat air patrol over the United States in helping keeping the skies safe," said Lt. Heather Kekic of Seymour Johnson AFB.
There are 26 cities in Operation Noble Eagle. The Strike Eagles could protect air space in any one of those cities.
