Full Flights Mean Longer Lines At RDU

As planes near or meet capacity, the airport and travelers are dealing with longer than usual lines thanks to increased security.

Monday, the security line where tickets are checked to allow passengers up to the gates snaked through Terminal A, out the door, and down the sidewalk along Terminal Boulevard.

It was a big wait for some, but with passengers thinking about security, it was not a big deal.

"I think they asked us to check in extra early, so this is all OK. It's moving fast and I'm not unhappy. I'm confident I'm going to get on my flight in time," said traveler Suzanna Brond.

While one security check line was out the door, a second security check had very little business. Some passengers wished they had been given the heads up.

"That would be really good and efficient, I think, for the whole airport itself and would make everybody move a little faster and have happy customers all the way down the line," said traveler Betty Barnes.

An RDU spokeswoman says the airport is working on a plan to ease the lines during heavy traffic times. In the meantime, they suggest that passengers prepare themselves for ID checks and searches before they arrive.
