NC Dems pick David Parker as new chairman
North Carolina's Democratic Party picked a new leader Saturday, as it gears up to battle a newly elected Republican majority in the state's General Assembly this legislative session.

David Parker, 56, of Iredell County, will replace David Young as the party's chairman for a two-year term effective immediately. He received 355 out of 632 total votes, party spokeswoman Kerra Bolton said.
"As the grim reality of the 'temporary Republican majority' in our General Assembly dawns on the people of this state, and as they realize that they're not willing to sacrifice the progress we've made together, the people of North Carolina will turn again to the Democrats, and we'll be here, stronger than ever," Parker said.
Young praised Parker's "wealth of experience leading grassroots efforts and winning elections." Parker is a member of the Democratic National Committee and has been an active party insider since the 1970s.
Young resigned shortly after Election Day to spend more time with his family and focus on his business, he said.
