Deputies called to Edwards home in 2008

Elizabeth Edwards told a dispatcher that her husband stole her wallet. She said John Edwards was not being violent but said that he didn't live in the house and was leaving with her wallet and credit cards.

Two units were dispatched to the home and spent about 45 minutes there, according to records.

The call occurred about two months after John Edwards publicly admitted that he had an affair with Rielle Hunter, a videographer hired by his campaign to produce promotional videos about his run for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

After repeatedly denying that he fathered Hunter's daughter, who will turn 2 next month, he admitted last week that he was the girl's father.

A tell-all book by Andrew Young, a former Edwards campaign aide, is due out Saturday. Young says in the book that Edwards went to great lengths to hide the affair, from trying to convince Hunter to have an abortion to recruiting Young to pose as the girl's father.

A federal grand jury has been investigating for months to determine whether campaign funds were used to hide the affair. Both Young and Hunter – she had her young daughter in tow – have appeared at the federal courthouse in Raleigh on days when the grand jury was meeting.
