RALEIGH, N.C. — Chris Heagarty, former director of the North Carolina Center for Voter Education, will replace Rep. Ty Harrell, D-Wake, in the state House of Representatives.

Wake Democratic Party Chair Jack Nichols said the party picked 39-year-old Heagarty to be Harrell successor early Saturday.

Harrell, who is under investigation over campaign expenditures, resigned last month.

Heagarty is expected to be officially appointed when Gov. Bev Perdue returns from an overseas trip, Nichols said.
