Obama to return to N.C. Saturday
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will make his second visit to North Carolina in six days when he and running mate Joe Biden hold a Saturday rally in Greensboro.
Posted — UpdatedThe rally is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. in front of the J. Douglas Galyon Depot on Washington Street. Tickets aren't required for the free event, but campaign officials urge people who want to go to signal their intention on the campaign Web site.
Obama held a rally in Charlotte last Sunday, when he criticized the proposed $700 billion bailout of the U.S. financial industry. He said the initial plan didn't protect taxpayers enough and wouldn't prevent another crisis.
A week before that, Biden and Michelle Obama, the candidate's wife, both visited Charlotte. Michelle Obama also held a roundtable with female voters in Greensboro and attended a private fundraiser in Durham.
Polls show a tight race between Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate John McCain. North Carolina hasn't backed a Democrat for president in 32 years, but Democratic Party officials said they believe they can win the state.
McCain hasn't scheduled any appearances in North Carolina, but Republican Party officials said they don't plan to take the state for granted and are confident it will remain in the GOP column in the November election.
