Wake commissioners support amendment banning same-sex unions
The Wake County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Monday in support of an amendment to the state constitution that would outlaw any legal union other than marriage between one man and one woman.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Monday in support of an amendment to the state constitution that would outlaw any legal union other than marriage between one man and one woman.
Same-sex marriage is already illegal in North Carolina, but Amendment One goes one step farther by banning civil unions.
The issue goes to voters on the May 8 primary ballot.
The resolution puts the county commissioners at odds with Raleigh City Council, which passed a resolution opposing the amendment in December.
