Enloe student named finalist in thespian program
Enloe High School's Morgan Richardson, a member of the Educational Theatre Association's student honorary, the International Thespian Society, was named one of four finalists in the 2011 Thespian Playworks program.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Enloe High School’s Morgan Richardson, a member of the Educational Theatre Association’s student honorary, the International Thespian Society, was named one of four finalists in the 2011 Thespian Playworks program.
Thespian Playworks is a playwriting and script-development program for high school students and takes place during the Thespian Festival, June 20-25, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Each year, up to four finalists are invited to bring their scripts to the Thespian Festival, where they work with a professional director, a dramaturg (a working playwright who acts as script advisor and mentor), and a volunteer cast of actors to put the short plays up on their feet before a live audience.
“Most high school students never have the opportunity to bring a play to life for the first time. Plus, for a lot of these Playworks finalists, it’s their first experience being taken seriously as a writer. That opens up a whole world of possibilities for them," said Julie York Coppens, associate editor of Dramatics magazine.
