RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Technical Community College on Wednesday opened an expanded site where law enforcement officers and other public safety professionals can receive training.

The college used $5 million to triple the size of its former Public Safety Training Center, to 65,000 square feet, and add state-of-the-art training operations.

The new Public Safety Education Campus will house Wake Tech’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program, as well as degree programs in criminal justice, latent evidence and fire protection technology. It will also provide continuing education for law enforcement and corrections officers, fire and rescue personnel, emergency medical services and other first responders.

The campus features a forensics lab that operates with the latest technologies, an incident command center, a defensive tactics room, a mock courtroom and a mock jail with booking and interrogation rooms.
