N.C. Symphony extends conductor's contract
The North Carolina Symphony has agreed to a contract extension with conductor Grant Llewellyn that will keep him in front of the orchestra through at least 2015, officials said Wednesday.

“Over the last six years, Grant Llewellyn has captured the hearts and minds of audiences throughout the state of North Carolina,” William Cavanaugh III, chairman of the symphony's board of directors, said in a statement. “We are indeed fortunate to have Grant continue to provide his dynamic artistic direction for our great orchestra.”
Llewellyn became the symphony’s fifth music director on July 1, 2004, signing a four-year contract. In 2006, the contract was extended to 2012.
Under his direction, the North Carolina Symphony has released three compact discs and has garnered praise from audiences and critics alike.
"I have come to realize that this is truly a unique orchestra in a very special place," Llewellyn said in a statement. "The North Carolina Symphony entertains and serves the people of this state as no other orchestra in the country, and I am proud and honored to be able to lead these fine musicians on our statewide mission into the future.”
