A scratch off lottery ticket
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lacretta Vanderburg’s first time playing Cash Spectacular paid off with the game’s top prize of $1 million.

Vanderburg brought the instant scratch-off ticket at Plaza Drive BP on East Plaza Drive in Mooresville.

“The first ticket I scratched off was the winning ticket,” Vanderburg said. “I didn’t believe it was real.”

Players who win the top prize are paid in installments of $50,000 a year for 20 years. After federal and state taxes are withheld, the annual payment is about $34,000.

Vanderburg has received her first check and she will get a similar check every year for the next 19 years. She said she plans to use the money to buy a house for herself and her children.
