North Carolina Central University celebrated the graduation of 500 students Saturday.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the first woman bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was the commencement speaker.

She urged the graduates to lead by example, saying, “Talent will get you in the door, but character will keep you there.

"Leadership is hard work. Don’t let anybody fool you. Leadership is not for the faint of heart," she said.
