'Raleigh on Ice' opens at Brier Creek
Raleigh on Ice opened the first of three outdoor ice skating rinks on Saturday.
Posted — UpdatedDuring opening day at the Brier Creek Commons location, Stormy the Carolina Hurricanes mascot greeted visitors who were excited to take to the ice.
“It's sort of weird because it's not real ice. It's really plastic," 10-year-old Paige Assa said Saturday. "I feel more free because I don't have a lot of layers on and I can move more."
The cost for skating in the rink is $7 for adults and $5 for children and includes skate rental.
A portion of Raleigh on Ice proceeds will benefit the Raleigh Rescue Mission and help homeless families in need.
People bringing at least three canned food goods to the Brier Creek Commons rink will get in free on Wednesdays. That location will be open during shopping center hours until Dec. 10.
Other Raleigh on Ice locations are:
North Hills: Nov. 21 - Jan. 3
Carolina Hurricanes: Nov. 29, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. (Free admission to rink with gently used or new coats)
Triangle Town Center: Dec. 13-26
Carolina Hurricanes: Dec. 13, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. (Free admission to rink with gently used or new blankets)
