Over 2,700 participate in City of Oaks Marathon

Nearly 3,000 people participated Sunday in Raleigh’s City of Oaks Marathon and the Rex Healthcare Half Marathon. The 26.2-mile marathon and 13.1-mile half marathon help raise money for health-related charities.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Over 2,700 people participated Sunday in Raleigh’s City of Oaks Marathon and the Rex Healthcare Half Marathon. The 26.2-mile marathon and 13.1-mile half marathon help raise money for health-related charities.

Patrick Reaves, 24, of Durham, captured the men’s marathon win with a time of 2:33:03.

The women’s marathon winner, Elena Kaledina, 43, of Eugene, Oregon, finished in 2:49:52.

Proceeds from the marathons benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Rex Healthcare Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.

Presenting sponsor Raleigh Running Outfitters established the City of Oaks race in 2007 with the intention of bringing a prestigious running event to Raleigh.
