TARBORO, N.C. — Princeville Montessori School principal Amy Marshall-Brown has been selected as the 2010 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Edgecombe County Public Schools.

Marshall-Brown, principal at Princeville Montessori since August 2006, has been an educator in Edgecombe County for 29 years.

Marshall-Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at North Carolina Central University in 1980 and completed her master’s degree at East Carolina University in 2005.

“My duties and responsibilities with children have ranged from potty training to classroom teaching, to overseeing buses and books, and now to supervision and administration. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every aspect and have adapted eagerly to each grade configuration and the variety of school cultures to which I’ve been exposed,” Marshall-Brown said in a release Tuesday.

The Princeville school serves approximately 400 children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Marshall-Brown will now compete with other local winners in the North Central region of the state.

After a winner is chosen from the state, one principal will be selected as the 2010 Wachovia Principal of the Year.

The regional Wachovia Principals of the Year receive cash awards for their school and personal use.

The 2010 Wachovia Principal of the Year received $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or her personal use.
