Rex nurses celebrate 50th reunion

While seeing how much the field of nursing has evolved, 1959 graduates of Rex Hospital's nursing school say the essentials of patient care remain the same.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nurses who graduated 50 years ago from Rex Hospital's nursing school gathered for a reunion in Raleigh Saturday.

About 20 members of the Class of 1959 gathered at the Lake Boone Trail facility. For many of the graduates, it was their first visit to the new location.

Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Powell talked about how the field has evolved.

"There's a lot of things that have changed. I think it's mainly technology," retired nurse Margie Faircloth-Hall said.

The essentials of nursing, though, are still the same, she said.

"Patients still like to have a tender voice and kindness, making them feel important. That's still what patients like today," Faircloth-Hall said.
