Raleigh teacher is doubly rewarded

RALEIGH, N.C. — A teacher at Raleigh's Hunter Elementary school was honored at home and a school last week. Carol Swink Wooten was in the hospital delivering her first child July 7 when word came that she had won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Wooten will join other award winners to receive her award from President Barack Obama in a White House ceremony in the fall.
Winners earn $10,000 from the National Science Foundation, an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the awards ceremony and several days of educational and celebratory events, including visits with members of Congress and science agency leaders.
