CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools have openings for bus drivers in the 2009-10 school year.

Applicants should have a clean driving record, be alcohol- and drug-free and hold a high school diploma or GED. They must be at least 18 years old and must undergo a background check.

Candidates may apply directly to the bus garage, located at 1708 High School Road in Chapel Hill.

Bus drivers must complete a three-day training course – including class work and driving skills – and have a commercial driver's license (CDL) with "S" and "P" endorsements. The next training course is scheduled for July 7-9 at the Highway Patrol Station on U.S. Highway 70 in Durham.

Bus drivers work in the mornings from 6:30 or 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2 to 3:30 or 5 p.m. Pay starts at $12.90 per hour.
