Triangle Transit puts 12 new buses on street

Built by Gillig Corp. in California, the buses are 40-foot, low-floor vehicles. They join 23 35-foot buses that were put into service last summer, officials said.

Each new bus seats 36 people and includes heavy-duty climate systems, "talking bus" technology and outdoor route information signs.

“The new buses will allow us to continue to improve services,” David King, Triangle Transit general manager, said in a statement. “We are halfway through the replacement of our fleet. Our riders should notice the difference.”

The buses cost $342,000 each, with funds coming from the federal government, the state Department of Transportation and Triangle Transit.
