Biltmore top state attraction in 2008
The Biltmore House in Asheville was the most-visited attraction in North Carolina last year, according to Matthews-based Carolina Publishing Associates.
Posted — UpdatedThe former estate of the wealthy Vanderbilt family drew almost 1.1 million visitors for the year – the only destination in the state to top 1 million visitors.
The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro finished second, with 764,637 visitors, followed by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, with 760,188 visitors. The Raleigh museum recently completed a six-month exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Other area attractions to make the Top 25 include the Museum of Life and Science in Durham at No. 8, the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh at No. 10, the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh at No. 22 and Chapel Hill's Morehead Planetarium at No. 23.
