Firefighters dress in pink
Triangle firefighters and Durham city employees were urged to show up in pink for a breast-cancer awareness event Sunday afternoon.

The Pink Ribbon Tour is nationwide effort by firefighters, police officers and community leaders to support those who are battling breast cancer and to educate others about the disease.
"We are a male-dominated profession supporting a female-dominated disease, and it is in our nature to fight for those who have lost the ability to fight for themselves," reads the Pink Ribbon Tour's Web site.
The group's trademark pink fire truck was to make an appearance in Brier Creek, and Sparky the Fire Dog was to be on hand to entertain children. Giveaways, contests and educational information were on hand for adults.
The city of Durham urged its employees to show up and wear pink.
The event was sponsored by the Durham, Raleigh and Bethesda fire departments and Durham County Emergency Medical Services.
