PETA awards Fayetteville firefighters for rescuing dogs
Fayetteville firefighters were recognized Wednesday for rescuing two dogs from a burning apartment.
Posted — UpdatedEngine 7, B shift firefighters earned the Compassionate Fire Department Award from PETA, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
On Aug. 20, firefighters were called to the Lake apartments at 3614 Pine Lake Drive for a fire that was confined to one unit. The residents were away but had left their dogs inside the apartment. Firefighters rescued them and reunited them with their owners.
”The dogs are alive and well because of the compassion and heroism shown by members of the Fayetteville Fire Department,” said Daphna Nachminovitch, PETA vice president.
The Fayetteville Fire Department received a framed certificate and a thank-you note signed by PETA staffers.
“We are very happy to receive this recognition from PETA for the heroic efforts of our firefighters,” Fire Chief Benny Nichols said. “We have rescued animals on numerous occasions and it is always heartwarming to reunite pets with their owners. With the rescue of these dogs, this award puts the icing on the cake for another mission accomplished.”
