HATTERAS, N.C. — The parks service lifted the burning ban for the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Friday, allowing visitors to have beach fires no larger than three feet across.

Superintendent Michael Murray said that recent rains have reduced the risk of fire in Dare and Hyde counties.

Those who set fires are required to keep water on hand and to dispose of flammable materials after they are done.

Fireworks are prohibited at the National Seashore.
