FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina state trooper received an award for heroism Tuesday morning for rescuing hostages inside a Jacksonville Wal-Mart earlier this year.

Trooper Chris J. Matos apprehended an armed man who took several employees hostage on March 23. He got the suspect to surrender and was able to arrest him.
