RALEIGH, N.C. — A State Bureau of Investigation agent has been recognized for his work to investigate and help shut down a national child pornography ring.

Special Agent Christopher Haas, an agent with the SBI Computer Crimes Unit, received an award from the national Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Fraternal Order of Police and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for his work to uncover a ring of people who were sharing images of abuse of their children via the Internet.

The FBI has rescued a dozen children who were victims of the ring, authorities said.

“Our agents are dedicated to protecting children, and I’m proud of the work they’re doing to make our communities safer,” Attorney General Roy Cooper said in a statement. “This award is well deserved.”
