Raleigh to promote volunteer efforts on 9/11
Mayor Nancy McFarlane said Wednesday that Raleigh will commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a day of volunteering.
Posted — UpdatedActivate Raleigh, a partnership between the city, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, several businesses and the Activate Good volunteer center, will try to address the needs of area residents through efforts like blood donations, feeding the hungry, training for disaster relief, home improvements, education and environmental protection.
“Through working together as a community for the common good, we can all have faith in a greater tomorrow,” McFarlane said.
David Diaz, president and chief executive of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, said that 17 planned projects need a total of more than 1,000 volunteer hours.
Volunteers will be working with many nonprofit, including the Red Cross, Interact, the Healing Place, Urban Ministries, the Interfaith Food Shuttle, the Neuse River Foundation and Global Hope India.
