Wake book sale starts Thursday
The annual Wake County Public Libraries Book Sale is expected to draw thousands of eager readers to the NC State Fairgrounds this weekend. The sale began Thursday at 10 a.m.
Posted — UpdatedThe sale moves this year from the Exposition Center to the Jim Graham Building, which is twice the size.
An estimated 450,000 books will be offered for sale at $4 for hardbacks, $4 for media and $2 for paperbacks and children's books. Those prices are halved on Saturday, and on Sunday, the final day of the sale, books can be purchased at $2 for a bag and $5 for a box.
Only cash or checks will be accepted.
On Friday there will be live music until 7 p.m. Saturday's family-friendly activities will include balloon artists, games and face painting.
The sale is a fundraiser for the Wake County libraries and the profits will help establish next year's book budget. All of the books in the sale have been donated to the libraries throughout the past year or have been removed from the shelves due to decreased demand.
One woman accidentally donated a book inscribed to her late parents last November, and it was finally found Wednesday night with the book sale merchandise.
Sale hours are as follows:
- Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
